The Fancy Shampoo That Gave My Dog the Best Coat of Her Life

The Fancy Shampoo That Gave My Dog the Best Coat of Her Life

As someone who screamed at the top of my lungs any time my mom plopped me in a Fisher-Price infant tub and who owns enough dry shampoo bottles to impress a TV producer on Hoarders, I've come to accept the shameful truth that I'm not much of a bather. My girlfriend's dog Pebbles, on the other hand, can't get enough of them.

So, when the beauty brand Ouai — brainchild of hairstylist-to-practically-every-star Jen Atkin — dropped its Limited-Edition Pet Shampoo ($28), of which 15 percent of proceeds go toward the charity Vanderpump Dog Foundation, I knew it was only a matter of time before I was sharing a shower with an 80-pound rottweiler.

Click ahead to check out Pebbles's full Dogtopia-style spa experience, which may have just been cute enough to make a bath believer out of me. Maybe.

Meet Pebbles

While Pebbles may be a full-grown 4-year-old dog, she has loved baths from the very first time she got one.

About the Shampoo

Infused with antimicrobial apple cider vinegar and soothing aloe vera, this gentle shampoo created some satisfying suds, and rinsed away all the dirt and grime that can accumulate on a dog's fur when it lives in a pollution-ridden place like NYC.

A Note on the Scent

This shampoo smelled exactly how I'd like my hair to after emerging from a salon: fancy as f*ck. But keep in mind that it is pungent, so I'd recommend using just a dollop, especially since dogs have roughly 220 million (!) olfactory receptors that could make them especially sensitive to scent.

Washing It Off

The only time Pebbles will ever look sad in a tub: when she's getting rinsed off (because that means the experience is almost over). Luckily, the scent lingered long after we hopped out.

The Shiniest Coat Ever

Immediately after her bath, you could see the light bounce off Pebbles's black coat. (Although it's safe to say she was probably more enthused about the dry-off process.)

The Results

At the end of the bath, Pebbles was happy and clean — and then promptly rolled around in the grass during the next park outing. It's a good thing we've got more than 3/4 of the shampoo bottle left at home.
