Over 500 Rarely-Seen Pieces From the Dior Archives Will Be on Display in New Exhibit

In February 1947, French couturier Christian Dior unveiled his first-ever couture collection titled "New Look," featuring sculpted hour-glass silhouettes that celebrated an embrace of femininity and glamour after World War II.

To showcase the lasting legacy of the brand on the fashion world, London's Victoria & Albert Museum will put Dior's iconic designs on display in an expansive exhibit dubbed Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams.

Organized by the Musée des Arts Decoratifs in Paris and curated by Olivier Gabet and Florence Mϋller, the Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams will also explore Dior's love of British culture and feature more than 500 objects from the designer's archive, including a dress worn by Princess Margaret on her 21st birthday.

"Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams celebrates one of the most ingenious and iconic designers in fashion history," Tim Reeve, deputy director and COO of the V&A, said in a statement. "Reimagining this hugely popular exhibition from Paris –as the largest fashion exhibition the V&A has undertaken since Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty–will shed new light on Dior’s fascination with Britain.”

The Dior exhibit will run from February 2 - July 14. Tickets for the exhibit go on sale this fall.
