Mousse Lipstick Is a Thing and It Lasted Through a 4 Course Meal
Lipstick is, hands down, my favorite makeup product. There is no such thing as having too many of them, and I think I've tried all the best formulas out there (cream, matte, satin, etc. etc. etc.) It takes a lot to surprise me, which is why I was so delighted when Urban Decay's brand new Lo-Fi Lip Mousse ($22) landed on my desk. I'd never tested—nor heard of—a mousse lipstick, and was curious to put it to the test.
Lo-Fi comes in eight shades of rose, berry, and red. I decided to wear Frequency, a vibrant red-orange, for a night out. Long story short: it lasted through an entire four-course meal without touch-ups. More on that later.
The formula feels almost like putty to the touch. It's not creamy, but rather powdery like an eye shadow. When you apply it (you can even use your fingers), your lips feel like there's literally nothing on them. It is ideal for a sexy, just-kissed finish with blurred edges. True, it isn't the most moisturizing, so it may not be ideal if your lips tend to feel dry. I just layered a lip balm under and it was fine. The little compact itself has three notable features: a mirror, a portable size to fit in the tiniest clutch, and conveniently, a hidden built-in applicator wand.
Wearing Urban Decay Lo-Fi Lip Mousse in Frequency.Beyond all that, it's the formula's staying power that won me over. This lipstick did not smudge nor budge as I ate food that'd typically lead to lipstick doom: oily pasta, slippery oysters, and other saucy dishes and messy dessert. I'd typically give up on my lipstick halfway through dinner and just wipe it off so I could enjoy my meal without being self conscious. Wearing Lo-Fi, however, let me live my best foodie life without worrying. As you can see in the picture above, the color stayed on the entire night. I'm going to keep one in every color.
