Louise Trotter Takes Over as Lacoste's New Creative Director

Since its creation 85 years ago Lacoste has never seen a female sit at the creative helm of the brand. But that changes today as the brand makes history by appointing British fashion designer Louise Trotter to take the reins as creative director.

Trotter, who left her post as creative director at Joseph in July after a nine-year stint at the company, replaces former Lacoste creative director Felipe Oliveira Baptista, who announced his resignation after eight years on May 2.

“Her visionary approach on lines and materials, as well as her expertise in creating highly technical pieces will be real assets to strengthen the positioning of our collections," Thierry Guibert, president of the Lacoste Group, said in a statement, according to Business of Fashion.

Trotter is especially excited to transition into this new phase in her career, adding: "“I am delighted to join this French brand with such a unique heritage. For 85 years, the modernity of the Lacoste style lies in this singular fusion of sport and fashion. I am proud to contribute to the writing of anew chapter in its history."

Following Baptista's exit, Lacoste's in-house team was tasked with designing the Spring 2019 collection, and put together a range that salutes traditional 90s streetwear plucked right from the brand's archives—including bucket hats, oversized tracksuits, and of course, Lacoste's signature piqué polo.
