Hair colour trends 2019: Aubergine and lilac hues are about to get BIG this year - here’s what to ask your hairdresser for

We may only be in January, but this year has already seen some amazing hair colour transformations.

Pastel hues are big, with Kylie Jenner revealing her icy blue locks were a “mood all 2019” and Lady Gaga also choosing to sport baby blue hair to match her gown at the Golden Globes.

Meanwhile, Hailey Bieber has just gone pink for January, choosy a “dusty rose” colour – roots to ends – and models at the Marc Jacobs SS19 show debuted everything from soft peach to faded lilac.

Francesca Dixon – Hari’s Senior Creative Colourist at Hari’s Salon –  believes colour is here to stay, and predicts aubergine and fuchsia pink are about to have their moment.

Speaking to OK! Online, she said: “Aubergine is one of my favourite colour hues for SS19 and a trend I predict is going to be requested all festival season in 2019.”

So what do you ask for when your hairdresser puts you in the hot seat? It all depends on whether you’re brunette or blonde.

Francesa told us: “Dark plum hues are beautiful on brunette bases and can also be incorporated into balayage and highlights with light lilac tones for a pop of fun.”

And blondes? “An alternative aubergine colour option for blondes is lilac hue roots which can be applied to bleach tints,” says Francesca.

She added: “You achieve this look by leaving the root slightly longer allowing the colour to melt from lilac into ice blonde ends.”

Francesa also believes fuchsia pink is about to get big, she said: “This year it’s all about hot and fiery fuchsia!”

This can be achieved in the salon using L’Oreal’s Colour Full Hair Professional Range.

The colourist revealed how she does this, telling us: “It is applied directly onto clean, washed hair and left for 20-30 minutes for an intense colour pop. These colours not only wash out (incase you don’t want to make the long-term commitment) but are extremely conditioning for the hair and won’t strip, harm and damage hair.

“To maintain and prolong any colour at home I always recommend investing in a good colour care shampoo free of nasties, such as Rahua’s Colour Full Shampoo.”
