Did '90s Prince William Just Inspire Thom Browne's Makeup Look?
Is Prince Harry as much of a style icon as his wife Megan Markle? Perhaps the hair and makeup at Thom Browne can tell us. Backstage in Paris, makeup artist Mark Carrasquillo claimed the look’s inspiration was “Eton College boys,” the squad of fluffy-haired aristos whose legions include Princes Harry and William, plus Eddie Redmayne, Percy Shelley, and even George Orwell.

That meant a "boy brow" of the highest degree, with M.A.C Great Brows Powder being brushed directly into the brows, then shaped with pencil and a long-handled lash brush. "Just take the natural shape of the eye and go even bigger and a little bit squarer," Carrasquillo explained. Meanwhile, stylist Eugene Souleiman completed the beauty look with Wella texturizer—an elevated version of the hair wax that teen boys glob before big school dances.

This isn't the first time we've seen a big brow this season: At Isabel Marant, makeup artist Lisa Butler touched up the models with Glossier Boy Brow, the American (!!!) style staple seen in college dorms nationwide. Val Garland referenced Brooke Shields’ “big ‘80s power brows” for her look at Giambattista Valli, while Pat McGrath's team at Stella McCartney expertly restored the full brows that models like Kaia Gerber had bleached off at Valentino.

But, Thom Browne's brow was by far the most dramatic fashion statement, though perhaps we shouldn't be surprised. After all, besides Will + Harry, Eton also boasts Beau Brummel—who some consider the first-ever fashion influencer—on its alumni list.
