Chrissy Teigen Gets Candid About Ditching Her Goal of "Swimsuit-Model Weight"

Chrissy Teigen's body image has changed rather drastically in the last few years. (Having two kids will do that to you.) The famously candid model and cookbook author recently opened up about putting her mental health first, and her reformed fitness goals in the October 2018 issue of Women's Health.

That realization didn't necessarily come easy. Following the birth of her daughter Luna in 2016, Chrissy said she had admittedly neglected her health while also battling postpartum depression. "After Luna, I was drinking too much," she said. "I wasn't eating as much because I was full from drinking. I wasn't being good to my body. I remember being so bruised from nothing." With the birth of her son Miles earlier this year, Chrissy began taking an antidepressant and took some time to reflect at a wellness retreat in Bali with her family.

"There's a very big difference between wanting to be that kind of fit and wanting to be happy-fit."

Now, Chrissy tries to not sweat the small stuff — like looking a certain way in a bikini. "Honestly, I don't ever have to be in a swimsuit again," she said. "Since I was 20 years old, I had this weight in my mind that I am, or that I'm supposed to be. I've been so used to that number for 10 years now. And then I started realizing it was a swimsuit-model weight. There's a very big difference between wanting to be that kind of fit and wanting to be happy-fit."

What does "happy-fit" mean to Chrissy? She now works out four days a week doing pilates or at Body By Simone, where she jumps rope, does weighted squats on a BOSU ball, and incorporates resistance bands. Chrissy's also got a killer plank. "Sometimes I think I'm the weakest person, but I can plank for 20 minutes," she said. "I've always had a really strong core, but it's truly in the core of my body. Like, the stuff that's on the outside kinda gummy, but the stuff that's on the inside: strong."
