3 Easy Grocery Hacks That Can Help You Lose Weight
When you're trying to eat healthier, you probably load up on nutritious staples at the grocery store: salad dressing, 100 percent fruit juice, lettuce. The problem with these "healthy" groceries is that they can actually be unhealthy and derail your weight-loss efforts if you're not careful. As Amanda Meixner (@meowmeix) posted on Instagram, there are some grocery items that are better left on the shelves.
Sure, eating a salad can be healthy, but not if you pick the wrong dressing. Instead of choosing a fattening ranch made with added sugar and canola oil, Amanda recommends paleo ranch, such as the one from Primal Kitchen. It's made with real ingredients, including avocado oil, apple cider vinegar, and cage-free eggs.
Instead of no-pulp orange juice, which has no fiber and tons of sugar, she recommends eating a regular orange. You'll get the same flavor but with fewer calories and more filling fiber. And while iceberg lettuce may seem like an innocuous enough choice for salads and recipes, it has virtually no nutritional value. Instead, opt for dark leafy greens, such as spinach, which have more vitamins and minerals.
"The small choices you make daily add up!" she wrote in her caption, and it's true: by making these easy swaps at the grocery store, you'll save on fat, calories, and sugar, and load up on good-for-you ingredients, vitamins, and nutrients.
